Most pool plumbing runs underground from the pool shell to the equipment pad. On many South Florida properties, the equipment pad is located close to or against the house. When an underground pipe failure occurs along that plumbing run, the escaping water follows the path of least resistance through the sandy soil, which may lead directly toward the foundation.
The risk is not from a surface leak at the skimmer or a crack in the shell visible above the waterline. Those sources lose water into the pool area and drain into the surrounding soil, but typically not directly toward the foundation.
