Direct Answer

Leak and Subsurface Locators does both, we find pool leaks and we repair many types of pool leaks. Detection and repair are separate services. The detection visit always comes first to confirm exactly what needs to be repaired and where before any repair work is scheduled. Repairs we perform include underground pipe repairs, skimmer repairs, crack injection, and pool light conduit sealing. When a repair is outside our scope, we document the findings clearly for the right contractor.

Repairs We Perform

Underground pool pipe repairs

When pipe testing confirms a failing plumbing line and trace gas or acoustic equipment pinpoints the location, we excavate and repair the pipe at the confirmed spot.

Skimmer repairs and sealing

Skimmer separation, where the skimmer body pulls away from the pool shell, is sealed after dye testing confirms it as the active leak source. Severe separations may require skimmer replacement.

Crack injection

Confirmed leaking structural cracks in the pool shell are sealed using polyurethane, epoxy, or hydraulic cement injection after the crack is confirmed as an active leak with dye testing.

Pool light conduit sealing

When the pool light conduit is identified as the leak path, water traveling from the niche back through the conduit, the conduit is sealed to stop the water path.

Return fitting repairs

Leaking return fittings, eyeball ports, and vacuum ports are repaired or replaced after dye testing confirms the fitting as the active source.

Main drain and fitting repairs

Main drain cover, gasket, and fitting issues identified during the inspection are assessed for repair scope and addressed when within our capabilities.

Why Detection Always Comes Before Repair

Repairing a pool leak without confirming the source first is one of the most expensive mistakes in pool ownership. A repair contractor who guesses at the skimmer, seals it, and then discovers the pool is still leaking from an underground pipe failure has done a repair that did not solve the problem. The homeowner pays for both the unnecessary skimmer repair and the pipe repair they actually needed.

Detection first means every repair we do is confirmed. We know exactly what we are fixing and why before any material touches the pool.

Jeff David, Leak and Subsurface Locators

I built the repair side of the business because it was the logical next step after finding the leak. The homeowner already trusts us because we found the source accurately. Scheduling a second company to come in and do the repair adds time, adds coordination, and adds the risk of miscommunication about what exactly needs to be done and where.

There are repairs I refer out, resurfacing, tile work, equipment replacement. Those are outside my scope and I say so clearly. But the most common repairs that come out of a detection visit, pipe work, skimmer sealing, crack injection, I do that myself. The homeowner gets a single point of contact from the leak detection to the repair to the confirmation that the pool is holding water.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you charge separately for detection and repair?

Yes. Detection and repair are separate line items. The detection fee covers the full diagnostic visit. Repair pricing is quoted after the leak is confirmed and the repair scope is clear. You know both prices before any work begins.

Can the repair be done the same day as detection?

Sometimes. Simple repairs, skimmer sealing, return fitting repair, can sometimes be done during the same visit when the scope is clear and materials are on hand. Underground pipe repairs and crack injection are typically scheduled as a follow-up. We tell you on the spot which category applies.

What if I already have a repair contractor I trust?

No problem. If you have an existing pool contractor who will do the repair, we do the detection visit and provide them with the documented findings, confirmed source, exact location, photos, so they know exactly what to do. We work alongside existing contractor relationships regularly.
