A commercial pool facility in Tamarac, FL had water loss far beyond normal evaporation, and previous attempts to find the source had failed. We found three separate leaks: a broken gutter pipe, a leaking heat pump, and two structural cracks in the shell.

The Findings

The property management team needed the source identified without tearing up the deck or closing the facility for long. We ran the H.U.N.T.E.R. Method, deploying acoustic listening equipment, pressure testing, and hydrophones to check the pool, its plumbing, and every piece of connected equipment.

Leak #1: Broken gutter pipe. Acoustic listening traced abnormal water flow sounds to the gutter system, the pipes responsible for circulation and skimming. The break was underground and invisible to a normal walk-through.

Using a hydrophone to pinpoint the broken gutter pipe in this Tamarac commercial pool.

Leak #2: Failing heat pump. Checking the equipment beyond the pool itself turned up an active leak at the heat pump's heat exchanger, adding to the facility's water loss.

Heat pump heat exchanger leak found at the Tamarac facility, confirmed during the equipment check.

Leak #3: Two structural cracks in the shell. Visual inspection combined with dye testing confirmed two cracks in the pool shell, precise enough locations that repairs can target just those spots instead of resurfacing the whole pool.

What This Means for Commercial Pools

Multiple simultaneous leak sources are common on commercial pools, not the exception. Finding and fixing one while the others keep leaking just means continued water loss. That's why a full equipment and structure check, not just the pool itself, matters on commercial jobs.
