An Unusual Incorporation Story
Greenacres has one of the county's more unusual municipal histories. It incorporated as Greenacres City on May 24, 1926, during the Florida land boom. The city dis-incorporated in 1945 and re-incorporated in 1947, and in 1990 the name was officially shortened from Greenacres City to Greenacres. Few Florida cities have incorporated twice, and the two dates matter when reading historical records about the city.
