You can usually tell by the questions they ask.
Questions a Good Company Asks
- How much water is the pool losing?
- Does it lose more with the pump on or off?
- Does the spa drain down overnight?
- Is there an autofill?
- Are there water features?
- Is the equipment pad wet?
- Have any recent repairs been made?
If someone barely asks questions and acts like every leak is simple, that is a warning sign.
What to Watch During the Visit
During the visit, a good leak detector should be systematic. They should look at the pool, equipment, plumbing layout, skimmer, lights, fittings, water level, and symptoms. They should not just walk around with dye and hope something shows up.
Honesty About Limits
They should also be honest about limits. Some leaks can be confirmed clearly. Some pool shell leaks, pebble finish pools, mosaic tile pools, and previously repaired pools can be difficult for any professional. A good company explains that instead of pretending every leak can be pinpointed to one tiny spot.
At LSL, we dive when conditions allow, use a step-by-step process, document with photos, and explain what we found in plain language.
