We do not make permanent marks in the pool, and we do not mark the inside of the pool.
Instead, we photograph the leak location and mark it clearly in the report. That is the best way to document what we found without damaging or marking the customer's pool finish, tile, deck, or property.
How We Document the Location
If the leak is around a light, skimmer, fitting, drain, crack, or other visible area, we document it with photos and written notes. If another repair contractor needs to find it later, the report and photos are usually more useful than a temporary mark that may wash away or get moved.
Underground Pipe Locations
For broken underground pipes, the process is different. If requested, we may place removable tape on the patio or surface area to help indicate the suspected location. But we do not make permanent marks.
Underground leaks are not always a perfect "X marks the spot" situation. The goal is to narrow the area as accurately as the conditions allow and document the finding so the repair person is not starting blind.
